October posts

Well this past month SPACE had this big opening event for Jon Measures and another photographer he was very low key about him self you can say. But the whole place was a success a lot of people came in the gallery and the music was great. People had a good time but it was difficult to handle especially when people wanted something to drink and clean up after them but either way a lot of Jon Measures pieces was sold.

This picture is from the other photographer from the backspace  area and the backspace had music artists and this artists was from the band Yeah Yeah Yeahs

This was crowd right when it opened and so you can say it was hand full but it was fun and I had the chance to meet the photographers and new people.

Blog 8 Research and Working EQ

1.  What is your working EQ?
- What is the best way to organize and advertise a photographer in an art gallery?

2.  What is a possible answer to your working EQ? Please write the answer in thesis format.  Examples:

- The best way to organize and advertise a photographer in an art gallery is by promoting and sharing information about the photographer in a main event.
- Encourage the audience to see the event and have pan flits ready for them and curate everything before hand to make everything easier.

3.  What is the most important source you have used that has helped you come up with an answer to your working EQ?
-This book my mentor let me borrow, she said it helped her with her job on running the gallery because she didn't major in art management. It explains who runs what and what kind of workers you need in an art gallery and how to set up the place when a huge event comes up or when a new artist comes in town.
4.  Who is your mentor, or where are you volunteering, and how does what you are doing relate to your working EQ?

-My mentor is Christina Franco and she is the owner of art gallery that mainly shows photography and any kind of photography.

Blog 7 Independent Component 1

1.  Describe in detail what you plan to do for your 30 hours.
- Im taking an ROP photography class at school and also doing more mentorship hours on Tues and Weds. but hopefully in other art gallery but if not then with my mentor.
2.  Discuss how or what you will do to meet the expectation of showing 30 hours of evidence.
- By just going to class and keeping my grade up and do more hours at mentorship and in other galleries and see if i can work with them for a while.
3.  And explain how what you will be doing will help you explore your topic in more depth.
- Asking more questions and see if my mentors partner has more answers because she is in college right now and majoring in photography and art management.

Quick events through September

Well through out September not a lot of things have happened just usually small events like an acoustic events. Those events usually start until 6 then ends till like 10 or 11. My mentor had to talk to people that just wanted to play for the people and no money which is very difficult because a lot of bands or solo artists can be very greedy so its not easy to book. From that we had design our little stage and mark our on equipment for no body would steal it. These events are very small but they can be very busy. My mentor ship sounds lame and boring I know, but in October there is going to be a huge event which i'm looking forward too and its going to be fun meeting the photographers that are selling there pictures.

Blog 5: Pentagon

The Pentagon:
(1) Positive Statement: What positive thing happen as a result of what you have completed so far?
- What i have completed so far is actually getting comfortable with the other interns and getting use to going to the gallery. Its really fun especially when you get to meet other artists and figure how they started their career. The great thing about this is that I actually get to set up things and be involved with everybody and not feel left out.

(2) EQ Content:  Pick a piece of research or your interview.  How has it helped you improve your understanding of your topic?
- Well one of my research was actually given to me by my mentor which has a lot of information of how to run a gallery or organize it, whatever you want to be in the art business. Its very helpful and explains what to do and how to do it.
(3) What has worked for you so far in the senior project?
- Well things have been going good with almost every thing and with my hours are working well because now that I also have ROP photography it works out even more. At the gallery it helps with what people have to do and how to get to represent an artist and what their all about. Its interesting and the events are great with new talent and other photographers.
(4) What hasn't worked so far?
- Not a lot of people go through out the week so its very slow. It has specific days when its full but its rare, its mainly full on the weekends or specific days. Usually through out the week we just organize then do nothing at the end.
(5) Finding Value:
  •  What is a potential question you would like to study this year?  (working EQ)
- What is the best way to organize and advertise a photography art gallery?

Blog 4: Interview 1 set up

Who do you plan to interview? Why?
- I plan to interview my mentor Christina Franco the owner of SPACE. Her and some other interns opened SPACE but she was stuck with it the other interns left to other cities even states cause they are doing so well with careers as Christina is. She also went to San Francisco which is where i want to go to when I graduate so it would be probably easy for me to talk to her because we get a long great and really look forward to it. Are you going to ask other open ended questions besides the five? What are they?
- How was it like in SF campus and the city like?
- Do you have specific major in photography? (ex photojournalism)
-What popped in your head to create SPACE?
